It's no secret that Obesity is the fastest growing health risk in the country.
According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control):
Obesity is common, serious and costly.
- About one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese. Over 69% are Overweight or Obese.
- No state has met the nation's Healthy People 2010 goal to lower obesity prevalence to 15%. The number of states with an obesity prevalence of 30% or more has increased to 12 states in 2010. In 2009, nine states had obesity rates of 30% or more. In 2000, no state had an obesity prevalence of 30% or more.
- Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of death.
- In 2008, medical costs associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion; the medical costs paid by third-party payors for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.
- 17% of American Children are obese.
- Studies show that for every extra pound you carry, over your ideal weight, you will lose approximately one month off of your life. An extra 60 pounds could cost you 5 years.
- As of September 8th, 2011: 1,545,666,040 Overweight people in the world and 515,222,014 Obese people in the world.

Why 90 Days? This seems to be the sweet spot: 90 Days is long enough to see dramatic results, yet short enough that people will stick to any program. It is statistically proven that if you set a goal, and it is clearly defined and written down, you are many, many times more likely to achieve the goal, than if you simply think about your goal. Using a program, progress tracking, and accountability all contribute to an increase in likelihood of you achieving your goal, too. That's why the 90 Day Challenge works. Another reason a 90 Day Challenge is a great idea is because you won't be disappointed in the first few days or weeks. Many people start a diet, for example, to lose 30 pounds. The first few days the are watching what they eat, exercising and drinking plenty of water. Then they get invited to a BBQ or Party, overeat and don't see results. Or they think the "diet didn't work" because they only lost 1 or 2 pounds their first week. It's not a 7 day challenge, it's a 90 day Challenge, so if you don't have extraordinary results the first week, you still have 12 more weeks to reach your goals! Some weeks will be easier than others. Holidays and Summer are tough because you people tend do activities centered around food.
